Junior Analyst at FOI
FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe's leading institutes for applied research in defense and security. FOI is an authority under the Ministry of Defence, tasked with conducting research, method and technology development, and investigations to support total defense, disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. The activities are carried out primarily on behalf of the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have about 1400 employees, of which over 1000 work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and technology to social and political sciences.

About the Position
Intensive work is underway to build up both the civilian and military defense and to integrate Sweden into NATO. As a junior analyst, you will have the opportunity to work on various issues to develop decision-making and knowledge support that can contribute to increased quality and capability in total defense. Research, as well as method development and analytical support, are some of the tasks.
The work is carried out both independently and together with clients and colleagues. The tasks can have both long-term and short-term focus. Work may also be partially performed at the Armed Forces, MSB, or the Government Offices. Field and exercise activities with inconvenient working hours may also occur.
About the Unit
Together, our employees at Defence Analysis form a unique analytical organization with a wide range of experiences and academic disciplines. The department is characterized by our ability to combine analysis and research to interdisciplinary identify, describe, and solve complex problems. Many of our analysts work integrated with our clients to directly support various investigation and planning efforts. Our main clients are the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces, and MSB. We contribute to better mutual understanding between the actors of total defense and strengthen society's ability to meet future challenges.
You will be part of the Operations and Management unit, which belongs to the Defence Analysis department.
Do You Have the Competence Profile We Need?
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- Master's degree or will graduate within 6 months in natural sciences, social sciences, or economics, or a civil engineer
- Knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative analytical methods
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
To thrive in the role, you collaborate well with both colleagues and clients and other stakeholders. You have excellent problem-solving analytical skills that allow you to handle and analyze complex issues. You also need to be able to work independently and have good personal maturity, adapting your approach to the situation. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
Meritorious
You are also welcome to have:
- Education with a focus on defense and security
- 1-3 years of experience in analytical work, research, or investigations
- 1-3 years of experience leading group discussions or exercises
- Knowledge and experience of total defense and/or civilian or military defense
